I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I'll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, Don't leave me here alone
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Don't you dare look out your window

Darling, everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
Gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound...

The Merman and The Moon Forgotten... Launches Into Space!

Nikolas and Company:
The Merman and the Moon Forgotton
by Kevin McGill

On March 31st Aero Studios is going to launch Nikolas and Co: The Merman and The Moon Forgotten...into space. Details in the video:

The Merman and The Moon Forgotten (Nikolas and Co #1) is about a ragtag group of teenagers that travel from earth to a mythological reimagination of our moon. It’s called Nikolas and Company: The Merman and The Moon Forgotten. So, sending my book up in a high altitude balloon into outer space seemed like the most logical conclusion…ok. For full disclosure, actually, I’ve always wanted to ride a weather balloon into space. But if the balloon popped, then I probably wouldn’t survive the descent, no matter how much bubble wrap I tied myself into. So, I’ve opted to send my book instead. We will film and share it with you guys next week!

If you’re around the metroplex and want to come out for launch day, then email me for details: kevinonpaper@gmail.com

Space-Book Contest

Note from author:

THE HIGH ALTITUDE BALLOON CARRYING MY BOOK WILL GO UP, BUT IT ALSO MUST COME BACK DOWN. BUT HOW FAR AWAY WILL IT LAND? 20 MILES FROM THE LAUNCH SITE? 30? 60?

CLICK HERE AND GIVE YOUR BEST GUESS. THE WINNER WILL GET A $50 GIFT CARD TO AMAZON OR BEST BUY AND A FREE COPY OF NIKOLAS AND CO.

win this at the Story Siren
-offer ends May 31

Willa's secret plan seems all too simple.

Take from the rich kids at valley prep and give to the poor ones.

Yet Willa's turn as Robin Hood at her new high school is anything but. Bilking her "friends"—known to everyone as the Glitterati—without them suspecting a thing is far from easy. Learning how to break into lockers and Beemers is as hard as she'd thought it would be. Delivering care packages to the scholarship girls, who are bullied just for being different, is more fun than she'd expected.

The complication Willa didn't expect, though, is Aidan Murphy, VP's most notorious ace-degenerate. His mere existence is distracting Willa from what matters most to her—evening the social playing field between the haves and have-nots. There's no time for flirting, especially with conceited trust-funders like Aidan. But when the cops start investigating the string of thefts at Valley Prep and the Glitterati begin to seek revenge, could Aidan wind up being the person that Willa trusts most?

A sweeping and suspenseful tale of secrets, intrigue, and lovers separated by time, all connected through the mystical qualities of a perfume created in the days of Cleopatra--and lost for 2,000 years.

Jac L'Etoile has always been haunted by the past, her memories infused with the exotic scents that she grew up surrounded by as the heir to a storied French perfume company. In order to flee the pain of those remembrances--and of her mother's suicide--she moved to America. Now, fourteen years later she and her brother have inherited the company along with it's financial problems. But when Robbie hints at an earth-shattering discovery in the family archives and then suddenly goes missing--leaving a dead body in his wake--Jac is plunged into a world she thought she'd left behind.

Back in Paris to investigate her brother's disappearance, Jac becomes haunted by the legend the House of L'Etoile has been espousing since 1799. Is there a scent that can unlock the mystery of reincarnation - or is it just another dream infused perfume?

The Book of Lost Fragrances fuses history, passion, and suspense, moving from Cleopatra's Egypt and the terrors of revolutionary France to Tibet's battle with China and the glamour of modern-day Paris. Jac's quest for the ancient perfume someone is willing to kill for becomes the key to understanding her own troubled past.

My two-bits:
In-a-word(s): great nose
Loved the historical details of the world of scents intermingled with mystery. I'm definitely more appreciative and aware of scents and smells that can be created for pleasure and other...

The mention of Paris and things French just popped out at me -- in a good way. Mostly because I've got Paris on the brain ;-D

I also liked how this book got me thinking about reincarnation.

A Breath of Eyre
by Eve Marie Mont
Just released: March 27, 2012
part of the The Class of 2k12

In this stunning, imaginative novel, Eve Marie Mont transports her modern-day heroine into the life of Jane Eyre to create a mesmerizing story of love, longing, and finding your place in the world. . .

Emma Townsend has always believed in stories--the ones she reads voraciously, and the ones she creates. Perhaps it's because she feels like an outsider at her exclusive prep school, or because her stepmother doesn't come close to filling the void left by her mother's death. And her only romantic prospect--apart from a crush on her English teacher--is Gray Newman, a long-time friend who just adds to Emma's confusion. But escape soon arrives in an old leather-bound copy of Jane Eyre. . .

Reading of Jane's isolation sparks a deep sense of kinship. Then fate takes things a leap further when a lightning storm catapults Emma right into Jane's body and her nineteenth-century world. As governess at Thornfield, Emma has a sense of belonging she's never known--and an attraction to the brooding Mr. Rochester. Now, moving between her two realities and uncovering secrets in both, Emma must decide whether her destiny lies in the pages of Jane's story, or in the unwritten chapters of her own. . .

Le Feu D'Issey from M.J. Rose

~-~-~-~-~ guest ~-~-~-~-~
by M.J. Rose
~-~-~-~-~ guest ~-~-~-~-~

M.J. Rose: I've been fascinated with lost fragrances since long before I started writing The Book of Lost Fragrances... since I found a bottle of perfume on my great grandmother's dresser that had belonged to her mother in Russia.

Here is one of those lost fragrances that stirs the senses and the imagination... (reasearched and described with the help of the perfume writer Dimitrios Dimitriadis)

ISSEY MIYAKE - LE FEU D'ISSEY A creation that came well ahead of its time, Le Feu d'Issey was launched amidst countless androgynous, unisex releases in the mid 90s, and represented the polar opposite of the scents that found their success at that time.

Sichuan pepper, amber and benzoin leant a combustable warmth to the composition, whilst Japanese lily, Bulgarian rose and lactic milk accords an opulent facet. Regarded as a huge commercial flop upon its release, Le Feu d'Issey is a perfume which many look upon now, some 15 years later, as an abstract masterpiece.

The Book of Lost Fragrances
by M.J. Rose
-gothic, historical

ABOUT the book:
A sweeping and suspenseful tale of secrets, intrigue, and lovers separated by time, all connected through the mystical qualities of a perfume created in the days of Cleopatra--and lost for 2,000 years.

Jac L'Etoile has always been haunted by the past, her memories infused with the exotic scents that she grew up surrounded by as the heir to a storied French perfume company. In order to flee the pain of those remembrances--and of her mother's suicide--she moved to America.

Turning into a cat is the least of her worries, though. The potion wasn’t meant to bring out her inner feline, it was meant to put her to sleep. Forever.
